Dear Experts, We have just bought 7 new heat exchangers and would like to store it prior to installation during next opportunity (shutdown). Please advice what is the best medium (which I believe Nitrogen gas is the best) for the preservation and at what temperature and pressure. Is there any standard or best practices for preservation of equipment?

Hasmid Preserving exchangers during shut down is done with inert gas (Nitrogen) purging under positive pressure at Room Temp conditions. If all the exchangers are in a closed loop system, inert gas purging through a closed loop inert gas hook-up line would do. For this inert gas generator facility may be needed during shut down period. If exchangers are in separate process loops, individual purging with cylinder nitrogen supply near the exchanger would be needed for each exchanger to be maintained under positive nitrogen purging pressure at ambient temperrature. Inert gas pressure :Cenerally kept at 0.5 to 1.0 Kg/Sq.cm at ambient temperature (Room Temp = 30-35 deg cent) is kept depending on the leak and purged nitrogen holding capacity. Trust this helps you C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt Ltd India Nov 2, 2006 E-mail: nishi@vsnl.com >Dear Experts, > >We have just bought 7 new heat exchangers and would like to >store it prior to installation during next opportunity >(shutdown). Dear Hasmid: Mr. C.V.Srinivasan is correct in his recommendation for storing under nitrogen pressure. However, this storage is meant best for long term storage (months, years). If the storage time is short, then simply keeping all nozzles sealed and the exchangers out of the weather may be sufficient. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
