[updated:LAST EDITED ON Dec-05-08 AT 03:01 AM (CDT)]hi pme There is no corrosion allowance formula for calculation of corrosion. Always the specification of project (Basic designer) determines and specifies the corrosion allowance.however, you can see metals handbook (ASM)and calculate rate of corrosion (proportion of type of material, Temperature, media). You shall know that many type of corrosion is existing. (Such as erosion corrosion and etc.). if you have sour service SCC and other type of failure maybe occur.(see NACE ) The lifetime of equipment is other data that must considered. Best regard

in simple tems the corrosion allowace is the product of the Corrosion rate x design life of the plant or component so if the corrosion rate is 0.1 mm/y and the design life is 20 ys then the CA = 2 mm if corrosion inhibition is used then the corrosion rate shall take into account the corrosion inhibitor efficiency and the availability of the corrosion inhibitor. look at this standard of NORSOK where is explained how to calculate the CA taking into account the effect of inhibitors (page 8): http://www.standard.no/pronorm-3/data/f/0/05/82/6_10704_0/M-001.pdf and also this paper from NACE: Corrosion Allowance %E2%80” Not Always a Simple Concept http://content.nace.org/Publications/MP/2006/0603048.pdf hope this help S
