Hi! I have several questions: would 304L will be galvanic corroded is welded to 316L? I have failed 304L, now I am looking for weldable-higher Ni Stainless Steel to improve the corrosion resistance, without causing/ being galvanic corroded by 304L. The material is one and a half inch spool pipe and the length 6 inch only. Thanks for helping this! CITA

Sir: Please see our reply to the other post regarding galvanic corrosion of 304SS to 316SS. It is our opinion that electrically coupling 304SS to 316SS will not cause galvanic corrosion, based on their respective (close) electromotive potentials. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Thanks Mr. Hendrix, How about 2205, 317L? Will they galvanic corrosion with 304L? I've been looking for a reference to identify the potensial electrode of various material specs. Do you have suggestion of the reference? Is NACE corrosion eng 's reference HB include that? Thanks. Cita

Cita: 317SS will be close to 304SS in the galvanic series. Duplex SS will be slightly different, but I am not certain whether it would be anodic or cathodic. I suspect slightly cathodic as the ferrite phase in duplex SS is slightly cathodic to the austenite phase. Remember, the potential for galvanic corrosion depends not only on the galvanic couple, but the corrosivity and conductance of the aqueous environment. Hope this helps!
