I am facing a problem of paint removal & damage due to spillage and spalsh of caustic in pump base structure of a 25% - 40% caustic pump. The paint applied is high build Chlororubber . Please suggest for any alternate suitable paint system. I am stuck up badly.

Debasis, I am sorry that you are stuck up.... Several epoxy paint systems have been used successfully in caustic service. Try the AMERON company The key to a good system is surface preparation....can you get the area sandblasted to a SSPC standard ? The PLASITE compay also makes coatings for caustic.....but as i recall these are mostly for tank internals MJC

Debasis The key to good and effective epoxy paint system success is on effective sand-blast surface preparation finish to SA 2.5 and then apply epoxy with MIO (micaceous iron oxide -intermediate coat of high build to 80-100 micron thick) and two finish high build epoxy coats - total around 200-250 micron thick. MIO is an impervious intermediate coat . This will effectively help in long lasting paint degradation. Adequate curing time is essential in between coats to have good tight adherence for Epoxy system. If you cannot do effective sand blast cleaning for epoxy application in process plants, no use in blaming paint system later. Any Indian paint manufacturuer or applicator will be able to do this successfully. Ameron system is good and has collaboration with one of the Indian reputed paint manufacturer on this. Dear Mitra, Surface preparation by sandblasting may not be possible inside a plant. In that case, go for manual cleaning to ST-3 ( you may use the discarded grinding wheels for very effective manual cleaning), apply any self-priming epoxy for 1st coat. For rest of the coats, you may follow what Srinivasan suggested. Regarding paint manufacturer, Asian Paints / Shalimar / Berger paints - each of them has something to offer in this category & these are locally available too. 'Hope this helps.
