Dear expert, I just wonder which one come first for tube to tubesheet welding, is it strength weld first then light expension or light expension first then strength weld. Is there any code standard mentioning this? Or is there any best engineering practices?

It is better to carry out strength weld first and roll it.If you roll it and carry out strength weld due to thermal expansion rolling may not be effective. krish

Hasmid Design code for exchander design: Refer to TEMA Code for code requirements. General rule: Strength weld and light role expansion of tube to tube sheet grooves. (whether single or double groove joint design). For exchangers to TEMA Class "R" design, some users's and designers' experience will vary. Some designers or fabricators may prefer light expansion first and then strength weld later - depending on the process tolerance for leak tightness of joints. Purpose is to have less stress on welded joint at the tube to tube sheet joint design.
