We have installed most of a 316L 2" dia pipe and used 308L weld filler. Will galvanic corrosion be an issue in ambient 94% sulphuric acid?

Gord: Galvanic corrosion shouldn't be a significant problem between 316SS and 308 weld metal in 94% sulfuric acid. The 316SS may have more overall corrosion resitance than the weld metal though. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Gord Galvanic Corrosion will not be a problem. Basically, why did you choose 308 L for 316 L material welding. Yould have chosen 309 L or 310 L with Mo. Did you by mistake typed it as 308 L filler wire used for welding 316 L pipe. 308 L weld filler metal if you have used, it will certainly have less corrosion resistance than 316 L Trust this answers your query C.V.Srinivasan India Oct 26 E-mail: nish@vsnl.com >Gord: > >Galvanic corrosion shouldn't be a significant problem >between 316SS and 308 weld metal in 94% sulfuric acid.
