Looking to fire a fabricated weldment of SS 316 / 316L & Mo in a vacuum furnace. This bascially a cleaing operation. I am trying to establish a max. time and temperature and vacuum level that SS 316 would be allow. Any thoughts?

Skywalker: We're not real sure what you're trying to accomplish. However, heat treating precautions with 316SS include not soaking in the sensitization range (%7E800-1600F) for any length of time if the component will be in a potentially corrosive service. The vacuum level is not particularly important. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
