Hello, Can some body suggest me a reference to select the metalurgy selection for sea water service in heat exchanger tube bundle, I have seen people using Aluminium brass, 70-30 & 90-10 cupro nickel, and ending with the most costly material titanium, Is there any chart or other guidence or criteria for the selection ? regards N.S.Babu

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Mar-08-05 AT 06:15 PM (CDT)]Babu: Materials selection for seawater service is complex, depending on the service life wanted, temperature, contaminents, design, and velocity, among others. We suggest that, for cricital applications, you solicit the help of people knowledgeable regarding corrosion in seawaters. David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.

Babu, I would also like to add that not all seawater is the same....equipment designed for service in the North Atlantic may not be adequate for the aggresive salinity of the Persian Gulf. Additionally, you may want to seriously consider how long you want this equipment to last. Premium materials of construction such as titanium may be an expensive choice for installations with limited service lives. This factor may affect your selection more than any other. The people at www.copper.org have some excellent information......and this is a good place to start. (Ummmm....They are, of course, in the business of selling copper alloy materials) http://www.copper.org/applications/cuni/txt_materials_selection.html As a common courtesy, please keep us informed about your final decision and material selection...... My opinion only MJC
