Hi We have an oil carbon steel coil for sampling purpose cooled by sea water . The coil leak by the sea water corrosion externally. In order to protect this coil from the external corrosion we recommend upgrading it to 70-30 Copper/nickel. The carbon steel coil internally was in good condition is there any possibility to have an internal corrosion due to little amount of the hydrogen sulfide and salt in the oil water phase that may effect the copper/nickel . if yes is there any alternative Thanks Mark Mor

In general oil cooler are used whenever sampling is being done and as a general practice before taking sample cooling water circuite will be charged. It is preferable to keep the cooling water in flow condition always to avoid stagnant water corrosion on tube external surface OR Otherwise a good epoxy coating suitable for immersion service will help to avoid external corrosion. If you go for cu-ni the bi-metallic corrosion is a added problem.

Thanks for your input but the temp. is 120 c so, I do not know if the epoxy coating will be fine or not. Mark

Phenolic Epoxy at high temperature range can be used for the above application.
