Hi we are injecting the dilute caustic upstream crude unit heater .The upstream heater line is carbon steel ,the temp. is about 260 c and the caustic about 2-3% wt is their any aware regrading the caustic cracking. The carbon steel is stress relived Thanks

Generally speaking, if your line was PWHT, the possibility of caustic cracking occurrence is a little bit reduced. Caustic cracking embrittlement of CS theoretically occurs above 21 PPM of OHNA injections. By the other side, Caustic addition, will somewhat contributes to coke formation inside your heater tubes. As per my reference chart, at this temperature/concentration, Caustic SCC attack on Carbon steel is considered as high risk
