I am having a problem deciding on an inspection stratergy for these storage cylinders that are used for Hydrogen and Nitrogen service at 2200 psig, on our process units. The largest of them are apprx. 25'-0" long X 2'-0" in diameter. Previosly we did a volumetric expansion test every six years, but this facility is no longer an option. Some are covered by the DOT regulations and others by ASME. What applies in your Refineries ?

Our hydrogen cylinders are inspected on a regular basis by a third part inspection recognized by the government according to ASME. Normally cylinders are: internal and external visual inspected, submitted to hardness tests, submitted to thickness measurements, submitted to hydrostatic test, safety valves air pressure tested. Finally all the system is leak tested. Maybe your visit to the site bellow would be helpful www.c-f-c.com/gaslink/docs/dot_cylinder.htm Regards Luis Marques

Ian Haynes In India. SMPV(U) Rules 1981 - Static & Mobile Pressure Vessels (Unfired)Rules 1981 is to be followed for the vessels handling explosive chemicals for storage under perssue. Internal and external inspection covers: Visual, FLMPTof welds, DPT of welds. UT thickenss of plates / nozzles, support column legs, UT Flaw check (internal) of welds, Hardness check of welds, Radiography - in case and if cracks are noted, safety valve test, hydro test after N.D.T tests do not show major defects. These test results are to be witnessed and certified by third party inspection companies 0 approved by explosive department - in India Trust this is of help to you C.V.Srinivasan Nishi Engineers Pvt Ltd India Aug 23 E-mail:nishi@vsnl.com >I am having a problem deciding on an inspection stratergy >for these storage cylinders that are used for Hydrogen and >Nitrogen service at 2200 psig, on our process units.
