Time of Flight Diffraction, Automated Backscatter, and Phased Array Scan are tools used for HIC detection. TOFD displays of HIC are difficult to interpret. I think you should contact a NDT specialist contractor to assess you on HIC detection. For a better understanding on TOFD please go to http://www.ndt.net/article/tofd/hecht/hecht.htm www.ndt.net/wshop/forum/messages-1/5289.html Regards Luis Marques

TOFD crack tip diffraction technique is an effective tool having high sensitivity , resolution and reproducibility for detection of HIC and midwall cracks. But it's interpretation of lateralwave, front and backwaves and backwall waves need expertise. Also machine has some limitations of OD & Thickness combinations.
