LME can occur on 300 series SS if in contact with molten zinc. Small quantity of the low melting point metal (i.e. zinc) are sufficient to cause LME. Based on API 571, LME can be confirmed using metallorgraphy. The intergranular cracks, due to LME, if detected, is usually filled by the low melting point metal (i.e. zinc). Recommend also to perform PT to confirm the presence of cracks.
