happie: Most metals naturally exist in nature as an oxide or sulfide compound because that is their lowest energy state. When a metal corrodes it is simply reverting to its lowest energy state. An oxide is the combined form of a metal and oxygen. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
