I asked a similar question earlier this month regarding concerns over liquid metal embrittlement of aluminium paint on a stainless surface. This time I have a Zinc Silicate paint on a P11 material, the operating temperature will range from 60 degrees C to 400 degrees C. From my understanding of the last answer I received so long as the operating temperature is below the melting point of the Zinc all should be ok.... Is this still the case or are there other issues I should worry about? Many thanks Niall Walters

Dear Sir: Zinc silicate paint and elemental zinc from galvanizing are different in their elevated temperature properties; however, with your stated environment of 400C with zinc silicate paint on stainless steel, LME should not be a problem. You should also refer to the paint manufacturer's guideance regarding their upper temperature limits for their zinc silicate paints. Hope this helps! David Hendrix The Hendrix Group Inc.
